Going, going. . . GONE

Our third graders have been learning about butterflies over the past few weeks. With that, we ordered some butterflies and got to see them go from caterpillars into their caccoons, then hatch as butterflies. My class and another class has kept them in a little butterfly habitat that we have been sharing between each other, so today we decided that together, we would take them outside to release them into the wild.

So we sat the kids down on the little step- like seating we have outside, and up in front, we opened the cage. . .

And as the butterflies flew away. . .

several birds promptly swooped in and ate them all up!

It took us a few weeks to learn about the butterfly. . .

and about 1 minute to discover the food chain!
